2006 CARDV Mother’s Day Run/Walk for Safe Families
CARDV’s 4th Annual Mother’s Day Run/Walk for Safe Families was blessed with beautiful weather and wonderful participants and volunteers. It was the place to be on Saturday, May 13, 2006!

Corvallis Police Chief Gary Boldizsar officially started the race. Seventy-six runners participated in the 5K run (course map) which started at 2nd and Western in Corvallis and wound through Pioneer and Avery Parks.
Bob Richardson won the overall race in a time of 19:13. The first female runner to cross the finish line was Nicole Von Germeten with a time of 20:28. She placed third overall. Both top finishers were in the 30-39 age group.
Fun Walk:
Over 100 walkers participated in the 2-mile fun walk, which started at the same place as the run but then headed up Corvallis’ lovely Riverfront Park (course map). Flowers donated by John Marchel of Stover, Evey & Jackson and chocolates donated by Burst’s Candies were handed out to the first 50 walkers to cross the finish line.
Emceeing the event was LaVonda Wagner, OSU Women’s Basketball Coach. It’s clear to see from her energy and enthusiasm how she motivates her team to win!
Family Fun & Safety Fair:
The Family Fun & Safety Fair is sponsored each year by local organizations to promote the concept of health and safety in our communities. Agencies participating this year included:- ABC House
- Albany Fire Department
- Albany Police Department
- CARDV
- CASA Voices for Children
- Community Outreach
- Corvallis Police Department
- Dixon Recreation Center
- Jackson Street Youth Shelter
- Planned Parenthood
- Old Mill Center
LaVonda demonstrated her artistic skills by making a Mother’s Day card at one of the craft booths run by volunteers from the Corvallis Waldorf School and the Corvallis Montessori School.
The Bubble Table, sponsored again this year by Old Mill Center, was a particular hit with the kids.
And hungry and thirsty participants enjoyed the water and snacks donated by local businesses CostCo, Fred Meyer, Noah’s Bagels, Pepsi Co. of Corvallis, and Safeway.
Also volunteering their time to lend a festive atmosphere to the day were musicians Fred Towne, Jason Yaich and Halie Loren.

“Friend-Raising”
This year CARDV added a new dimension to our event. Participants were given the opportunity to collect contributions from friends and vie for incentive prizes donated by local businesses Five Star Sports, The Retreat and The Train House Inn. One group worked together to win all three prizes. Team Windermere, made up of staff and realtors at Windermere Realty Corvallis, raised $230 from friends and associates. Thank you Team Windermere for your support!
Raffle Prize:
This year we raffled off two donated prizes, a football signed by the 2006 OSU Men’s Football Team and an iPod Nano donated by the Bartholomaus Family in memory of Jill Bartholomaus Dierkus.
All proceeds from this event are used to sustain CARDV’s shelter program, provide advocacy services to victims of domestic and sexual violence and support CARDV’s community education programs.
AND SPECIAL THANKS GOES TO…
An event like this couldn’t take place without the hard work and dedication of community volunteers and businesses. When you see these people or business, please thank them for helping make Linn and Benton Counties safer for victims of domestic and sexual violence.
